Chasing ACT Player Details

I am doing some further research into former ACT Cricketers. Anyone who is able to assist, please contact me below. I am after full names including middle names, dates of birth, places of birth and if relevant dates of death and places of death. Even if possible batting and bowling styles.

I use the information to generate different types of statistics including various youngest/oldest statistics for ACT representative and grade cricket. Also I use the details for full initials and to make sure spelling of names of players are correct in records and statistics.

S McDermott

Opened the batting and bowling for White City in B Grade in 1926/27. Likely to have moved out of the ACT after 1927 as White City was a camp near the current Hotel Canberra.

O Richards

Played for Canberra and Eastlake but left the ACT district after 1926. He was linked with the Eastlake Tennis Club and was possibly the Canberra Railway Station Master. Possibly from Port Augusta, South Australia.

Keith Elgin Carroll

Played for Canberra and Northbourne in the late 1920s.

Jock McKenzie

Played for Ainslie and Acton in the early 1930s. Also played National (Australian) Football for Ainslie.

H Fitzgerald

Played for Northbourne and one match for the ACT in 1940/41.

James Chapman

Played for Barton in the ACT War-Time Competition and for the ACT in 1945/46.

Edward McCarthy

Born in 1916 and played for ACT and Ainslie in 1946/47.

McDermott

No first name or initial. Played for RMC and ACT in 1946/47, so was unlikely to have been in the ACT for long.

R Cole

Played for Fairbairn in lower grades and ACT in 1946/47. Also unlikely to have been in the district for long.

Jack Murphy

Played for Kingston, Manuka and Queanbeyan. Played for the ACT between 1947/48 and 1949/50.

Bernard Lynch (known as Barney)

Played for Ainslie and Kingston and for the ACT in 1948/49. Likely to have passed away in 1976.

William (Bill) Henderson

Originally from country Queensland. Was a wicket-keeper who played for Ainslie and also for the ACT in 1951/52.

Max Jolliffe

Played for the ACT between 1951 and 1963 and also baseball for the ACT. Moved to Newcastle in the 1970s. Played for Ainslie, Northbourne and Turner.

Ian Graham McLellan

Born in Melbourne in 1933. Played for RMC and ACT in 1952/53. Also played for the Prime Minister’s XI match.

John Thomas Loftus

Fred Seymour

Fast bowler who played for Queanbeyan and ACT in 1956/57.

John Wheeler

Cricket Statistics Offer

With the use of PlayHQ and the lack of statistics on that website compared to what MyCricket could do, I am offering the following service.

For a limited time, I will supply statistics for the remainder of this season and the entirety of next season for the cost of one season.

I will supply statistics to any club who is using PlayHQ on a weekly or round basis for each grade. This will be in any format that a club needs and I can supply.

The cost will be $100 per grade required for the season. This is capped at $700 for those clubs with 7 or more teams active during the season.

Statistics provided:

  • Round by round or week by week statistics in a required format
  • End of season statistics booklet covering match summaries, scorecards for finals achieved and overall and grade by grade statistics
  • Milestones for the club where applicable historical statistics are available
  • Update of historical statistics, records and awards where available and applicable

Other statistics, records and research information are available on a case by case basis. An example of this would be the creation of player numbers for a club.

Database

I currently have a database which contains over 250,000 matches from all around the world. Details of matches include:

  • All International matches (both male and female)
  • All First-Class, List A and Twenty20 (both male and female)
  • All Premier 1st Grade matches in the ACT, Sydney and Melbourne. Premier 1st Grades from Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth played since 2009.
  • Grade cricket matches played around Australia including all Tier 2 competitions
  • 2nd XI, League matches, Youth Internationals, Tour matches and other Minor matches played around the world.
  • A comprehensive database of Emerging Cricket Matches both male and female from all around the world.
  • Youth Championship matches played in Australia

Although direct access to the database can not be given, I can generate statistics from the database on a case by case basis or for a fee I can generate regular reports for the statistical needs. Over 160 different reports can be run with at least 10 different filters available to be applied. Please contact me for more information to suit your requirements.

Background

I have been a cricket statistician, historian and scorer for the last 30 years.

I am currently the statistician for Cricket ACT (since 1996), Cricket NSW (since 2015), Sydney Cricket Association (since 2000), Sydney Cricket Ground (since 2020), Ginninderra Cricket Club. I also undertake the statistical work for the Australian Country Cricket Championships and other clubs and organisations on request.

As an author I wrote From Country to Comets, 75 Years of ACT Cricket, a 750 page book covering the first 75 years of scorecards. I have produced regular statistical booklets and annual reports. I have also produced the Sydney Cricket Ground New Year Test Booklet for the past three seasons. I have also contributed to Emerging Cricket, CricConnect, CricketArchive and Wisden Australia. I have also had the opportunity to work on the odd occasion with ABC Radio and TV as well as Foxtel’s cricket coverage.

As a scorer I have scored 4 Test Matches (including the inaugural Test Match at Manuka Oval), 17 One Day Internationals (including the 2015 World Cup Semi-Final) and 4 T20 Internationals. I have been a member of the NSW and ACT representative scoring panels. As a Premier Cricket Scorer, I have scored in Canberra for Weston Creek Molonglo and currently Ginninderra, scoring over 200 1st Grade matches since 2003. In 2023, I was honoured to be named the ACT Scorer of the Century at the Cricket ACT Centenary celebrations. In total, I have scored nearly 400 grade and representative matches.

As the Historian for Cricket ACT, I was a chief consultant for the very successful 6 episode podcast series for the Centenary of Cricket ACT.

I run a successful Twitter/X account which has over 2700 followers.
