Queensland Men’s Premier 1st Grade – Round 1

Valley, Northern Suburbs, Gold Coast, Toombul, Wynnum-Manly and Ipswich were the winners in the first round of the Queensland Premier 1st Grade Competition.

In the match of the round, Valley survived a late comeback to defeat Redlands by 34 runs at Peter Burge Oval. Batting first, Valley scored the highest score of the round with 7 for 321 off their 50 overs. Jake Wildermuth top scored with 113 while Usman Khawaja made 58 before being bowled by Marnus Labuschagne. In reply Redlands was dismissed for 287, rallying late to put a scare into the visitors. James Peirson top scored with 92 opening the innings while Cameron McInerney made 75 off just 47 balls to get the side close to victory. James Bazley took 3 for 52 for Redlands while Mark Steketee took 3 for 50 for Valley.

Northern Suburbs had a comfortable 37 run win over University despite being dismissed for just 190. Wicket-keeper Tom Healy top scored for the visitors while William Sanders took 4-49 and also top scored for University with 33.

Gold Coast were big winners against Western Suburbs at home at Robina. Western Suburbs were dismissed for 112 in a rain affected match. Kyle Wisniewski took 5 for 26 in 5 overs for the home side who only lost one wicket on their way to victory. Max Bryant top scored with an unbeaten 82 off 67 balls.

Sandgate-Redcliffe was no match for Toombul, going down by 5 wickets at Ken Mackay Oval. Toombul were in early trouble at 4 for 56 but keeper Patrick Cotter with an unbeaten 51 and Matt Renshaw with 40 saw them home with more than 13 overs to spare.

South Brisbane could only manage 9 for 199 batting first against Wynnum-Manly. All bar two players made double figures but the highest score was only 32. Cameron Trask top scored for Wynnum-Manly with 55 with the home side hitting the winning runs with 7 balls to spare.

Ipswich had a massive win at home against Sunshine Coast. Ipswich batted first and made 6 for 305 with Harrison Wood scoring 105 and Ryan Hackney making 61 opening the innings on debut for the club. In reply Sunshine Coast were no match being dismissed for 83 after being 5 for 9 at one stage. Four bowlers took two wickets each for Ipswich who won the match by 222 runs.

Northern Suburbs 190 (TA Healy 38, J Brown 36, A Grewal 33, S Neale 26, W Sanders 4-49, J Coetzee 2-20) defeated University of Queensland 153 (W Sanders 33, J Coetzee 29, H Sardar 3-47, N McFadyen 2-27) by 37 runs at WEP Harris Oval, St Lucia.

Western Suburbs 112 (S McGiffin 26, K Wisniewski 5-26, HL Kerr 2-16) lost to Gold Coast 1-123 (MA Bryant 82no, H Burdon 33no) by 9 wickets (DLS) Bill Pippen Oval, Robina.

Sandgate-Redcliffe 144 (RB Livingstone 26, D Cranitch 3-17, A Stockdale 3-42, HC McNeilly 2-20) lost to Toombul 5-145 (PW Cotter 51no, MT Renshaw 40, MJ Swepson 2-37) by 5 wickets at Ken Mackay Oval, Nundah.

South Brisbane 9-199 (L Duval 32, JD Fraser 2-26, L Hope-Shackley 2-44, G Jones 2-50) lost to Wynnum-Manly 6-202 (CT Trask 55, G Jones 41no, L Hope-Shackley 40, B Honeybrook 2-31) by 4 wickets at Bill Albury Oval, Tingalpa.

Ipswich 6-305 (H Wood 105, RP Hackney 61, DP Wilson 52no, AG Wilson 42, JP Wood 25, AA Day 2-46, T Olsen 2-62) defeated Sunshine Coast 83 (JB Turnbull 37, B Llewellyn 2-5, R Lutter 2-7, A Smith 2-14, JP Wood 2-32) by 222 runs at Baxter Oval, Amberley.
